Gallifreyan
While I’ve been interested in drawing nearly all my life, the fictional circular language of Doctor Who known as Gallifreyan (for its planet of origin Gallifrey) is what really got me into the process of improving my skills and making things that were more unique and meaningful. It all began in my freshman year of high school when a friend of mine showed me the fan-made Circular Gallifreyan writing system (which you can find at http://shermansplanet.com/gallifreyan.html). I had been watching and loving the show for a while by then and was always fascinated by the circular designs, so once I found out about this I knew I just had to learn it. For the first few months I just practiced writing random words until I felt comfortable with how the system worked, and then I started playing around with ways I could integrate the designs into other artistic contexts. Eventually I also discovered that the Gallifreyan in the show was just a bunch of nice- and intricate-looking circular designs, and while that was a little disappointing to find out I also decided I would do my best to create my own Gallifreyan-looking designs. My Gallifreyan work below may not be some of the most refined art I’ve ever created, but it is some of my favorite, and I always find myself coming back to it some way or another. It never fails to make me feel just a little bit like an enigmatic Time Lord, flying through time and space.
